Dueling Darlings June 2011

Hello ~

It's the 15th of the month (already - June is FLYING by!) so it's time for another Duel between the Diva's and Darlings. June is the perfect month for the theme, the great outdoors. Our hostess this month is Barb, and she's put together a fantastic kit of goodies for us all to play with. I started with this week's MOJO Monday Sketch, and my card kind of just took of from there into a happy campyland.

For this month's challenge we are sharing an outdoorsy story ~ so here goes.....When I was younger (about 20 years ago) we went on a camping trip (cabin) up north near Tomahawk WI (Lake Nokomis). We (my family) went with another family we are very good friends with. I have three very vivid memories of the trip:

  • Inter-tubing on the river. I think I was supposed to be a 2-hour ride downstream, it took us all day as there was absolutely no current to help us along the way. I remember most everyone getting a little too much sun......and being very sore for quite awhile! For whatever reason (maybe because I was already really tan) I did not burn. Neither did a kid in the other family. So we tried to keep ourselves entertained while everyone "chilled" by playing lots of nerf table-tennis & trading baseball cards.  I got really good at the table tennis part ~ we were pretty even so some games would go on and on....
  • The little amusement park we went to one day. It was chilly, damp and drizzly yet we still managed to have a lot of fun. I think it was only in the 50's yet one of us kids still went down the water-slide. Brr Cold!
  • Fishing and catching only Bullheads ~ my dad said not to catch them, but they were apparently attracted to my fishing line. So I lost a hook or two (the reason not to catch them, they like to really swallow the hooks).
I hope you enjoyed my post for today, Please check out the other Darling Diva's as well ~ to see what they have on their blog waiting for you:

Judy, Barb,  Laura Jean (me) Judy, Jamie,  Kelly  Joan and  Carol (our hostess)

Please start here, at Jeanette's blog for our friendly duel

Thanks for stopping by ~

Hugs ~ LJ

LJ, your card is just too cute! I love that little camper - so vintage looking and your layout is incredible! Great use of the kit items.

Loved hearing of your camping trip and the fun you had while others were suffering from too much sun.

The blue paper really accents this card - great thought.

Your intertube memories bring back mine as well. It was a fun thing to do. We used to go all the time in high school. You are right....current helps a lot!

Great card, LJ!

I love your card!!! Thanks for the memories!! When my kids were little, we went "tubing the Tomahawk."
It was a beautiful, hot, sunny day. When I was a kid, we would go to Minnesota, (Leech Lake) and go fishing. We always caught tons of fish. I remember the bullheads too!!
How fun!! Thank you!!
