Hidden Message Card

Hello, back on 12/15, I posted a card with a hidden message HERE. Today I received a request to show how I made the the card. I didn't use a tutorial per se, I had just learned how to make one a long time ago at one of my first SU! Workshops, so I was remembering from what I learned then. This is my attempt at a tutorial, so bear with me :) and I hope those that are interested understand, and if you don't please as a question in the comments and I'll edit the post to reflect anything that I've missed.

The completed card is above (message hidden) and below (message showing) I inked up another one of my new Pure Innocence images from MFT (4-Leaf Clover). The girl's outfit was paper-pieced, the rest of the image was colored in.

So here are the pieces needed to complete the hidden message card:

  • Tag - Wild Wasabi Piece is 3.5" by 1.5" wide, however the length can vary depending on how long your top panel is. I used the SU! Tab punch for the blue handle. The thin piece that makes the "T" is about 1/2" by 3". That holds the tag in place when you pull it out.
  • Wild Wasabi polka-dot base - 4" X 5.25" - punched about 1" in with the SU! Horizontal Slot punch. You need to punch it far enough in so that the top panel (image) will cover it up, and that there is room on the end for it to hang out.
  • Navy Layer - 4.25" X 5.5" - standard card size. Note this is not a folding card. That's the base of the card. You could make it a folding card if you wanted to though!
  • Image Panel - the Navy Panel is approx 2.5" X 3.75" . You can make it wider than 2.5" but I would not make it any "taller" than 3.75".
  • Optional: Instead of ribbon, you could add a pocket to the left of the image for a money holder. I didn't do it this time, but if you would like to see what it would look like, my 12/15/2009 blog post shows this

Assembling the card once you have the pieces cut is pretty simple, first, slide the tag into the slot. It's easier to do from the back side, see 2nd picture below. The blue tag handle (or whatever color you choose) should be on the right side of the front of the card. Next, with the tag adhere the green panel to the navy base. I used adhesive on the top, bottom and left side of the green panel (do not put any adhesive in the middle of the panel, as it will make the tag "stick" and not slide out. Once it's adhered to the Navy panel, Close your tag, and then add the top image panel so that it covers up the slot. The result is the first two images in this post.

Kate directed me here and I'm very impressed. I love the pure innocence images. Who makes them?

Looking forward to giving this card a try tomorrow. Have you ever tried making a pocket card with a hidden message on the front? Wondering if there's a way to do that...
